Public Awareness & Safety

If You Smell Gas, Leave the Area Immediately

If you suspect a natural gas leak, leave the area right away and call WTG Energy’s 24/7 Emergency Line at (844) 976-0333 or dial 911 from a safe location.

Recognizing a Gas Leak
Be alert to these signs that may indicate a natural gas leak:

Smell

A strong “rotten egg” odor

Sight

Dead vegetation, bubbling water, or dust blowing near a line

Sound

Hissing, blowing, or roaring noises near a pipeline or meter

DO NOT:

Use matches, lighters, or electronics
Turn light switches on or off
Start vehicles or machinery
Try to locate or stop the leak yourself

Pipeline Safety

WTG Energy operates more than 6,000 miles of distribution and 1,600 miles of transmission pipelines—serving over 30,000 customers.

We work every day to maintain the highest safety standards, and we ask our communities to help by staying alert and calling before digging.

Call 811 Before You Dig
Always call 811 at least 48 hours before digging or excavating. This national one-call service helps locate underground utilities to prevent damage, injury, or service disruptions.

Even small projects like planting trees or installing fence posts require a call.

Pipeline Markers & Damage Prevention
Pipeline markers show general pipeline locations and emergency contact information.

If a pipeline is damaged — even slightly — contact WTG Energy immediately. Small dents or scrapes can lead to future leaks if not inspected.

Customer Maintenance Responsibilities
WTG maintains gas lines up to your meter. Lines running from the meter into your home or property are your responsibility.

We recommend having them inspected annually by a qualified professional for leaks, corrosion, or venting issues.

Tampering & Theft
Tampering with pipelines or meters is illegal and dangerous. It risks serious injury and property damage.

WTG has a zero-tolerance policy for tampering. If you suspect it, contact your local WTG office immediately.
